On October 7, 1917, the Des Moines Register published these photograpghs of the Villisca Axe Murder house and some of the victims and suspects. I hadn't seen a few of these before so I thought they were worth a look.

Vina Thompkins said William "Blackie" Mansfield was one of the killers, but at the trial she was unable to identify him. As a result, Mansfield was released.
William "Blackie" Mansfield was implicated in the Villisca Axe Murders and several other ax murder cases in the Midwest but he was never convicted. The evidence against him was too thin.
The Presbyterian Church at Villisca where the Moore's attended Sunday services on the night they were killed.
