Ladies' Home Journal Endorses Beer Over Patent Medicines

(Sioux City Journal. June 29, 1904)

This has to be one of the strangest advertisements I've ever seen. The Ladies' Home Journal endorses beer over patent medicines.

According to the advertisement: Mr. Edward Bok, the editor of The Ladies Home Journal, published an article in the May 1904 issue that named 35 patent medicines that contained as much as 47 percent alcohol. By comparison, Budweiser contained only 3 1/2 percent alcohol.

Not quite an endorsement for beer over medicine. But a clever twisting of what the article said.
